The unveiling was done at a ceremony where it was told that the super computer by NUST is running of the fastest graphics processing unit that is being used in any sort of academic institution or any kind of organization in Pakistan.
The super computer is capable of performing tasks at the highest speed of 132 tera flops which is equivalent to 132 trillion operations per seconds. Also it is fit with not one core or quad core but multi core processors in addition to graphics co-processors which can provide an internal communication speed of upto 40 gpbs.
The other specs of this super computer include a 2 head node which means a 16 processor cores , 32 Nvidia computing processors, 32 dual quad core computer nodes (equal to 256 processor cores) and lastly each processor has 960 further processor cores which totals it upto 30,720 processor cores. Also the super computer comes with a 21.6 Tera byte San storage.
The state of art super computer will be used in research projects at NUST specializing in the fields of Biosciences and Fluid Dynamics. Also the super computer can be used to find out more on topic such as oil and gas exploration, floods forecasting, making and building efficient building designs and so much more.
