Saeed Ajmal became World No. 2 Test bowler

Saeed Ajmal became World No. 2 Test bowler

Pakistan’s magical off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has claimed the second position in ICC Test ranking of bowlers. Australia skipper Michael Clarke has taken over Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara as No.1 Test batsman.
South Africa pacer Vernon Philander’s ordinary performance in the ongoing Test series in Australia became the reason of the elevation of Saeed Ajmal, who is the currently the top-ranked ODI and T20 bowler.
Philander arrived in Australia as No.2 Test bowler but failed to claim a single wicket in the drawn first Test in Brisbane. He missed the second Test in Adelaide due to back strain.
Though both Saeed Ajmal and Philander have equal 132 rating points but the former was ahead with a few frictional points. No other Pakistani bowler has been included in top-ten. South Africa’s Dale Styen is still present at the summit with 858 rating points.
Clarke retrieved his No.1 Test ranking after his record breaking 230 in the second Test against South Africa in Adelaide. It was Clarke’s fourth double hundred of the year, a feat which has been recorded for the first time.
Clarke, who had started the year in 20th position, moved past Sangakkara and South African duo Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis to claim the top-spot with 890 points.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who slammed a double century and unbeaten 150 in the recently-concluded Test series in Bangladesh, has moved up to third place after rising two places.
England’s Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen have clinched the 6th and 7th positions respectively after slamming centuries in England’s series-leveling 10-wicket victory over India in second Test in Mumbai.

Pakistan to play three ODIs in India

Pakistan to play three ODIs in India

NEW DEHLI: Cricketing ties between Pakistan and India have resumed as Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has announced that Pakistan team will tour India in December this year to play three one-day internationals (ODIs), Geo News reported.

According to Indian media, the BCCI has agreed in principle to invite the Pakistan cricket team. The bilateral series will be the first after five years severed after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The report about the series comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) put forward three proposals to their Indian counterparts in a bid to resume bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan.

The PCB proposed that either India could tour Pakistan or play them in a neutral venue. The third proposal was PCB hosting their home series in India.

The process received the boost this month when the foreign secretaries of the two countries decided to promote the sporting contacts. The joint statement issued after the two-day talks stated: "The Foreign Secretaries also emphasized the need to promote media and sports contacts".

Also, PCB chief Zaka Ashraf had several meetings with BCCI President N Srinivasan.

The BCCI has also invited Pakistan's national T20 champion Sialkot Stallions to participate in the Qualifying Tournament of Champions League Twenty20 to be held in South Africa later this year.

While commenting on the development Zaka Ashraf said that the two boards and governments were working hard to normalise the situation and now the ties between the two countries are much better than before.

Asad Shafiq resisted the Sri Lankan bowling before lunch, Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 1st Test, Galle, 4th day, June 25, 2012
Asad Shafiq made a solid half-century © AFP

For a year and a half after Muttiah Muralitharan's retirement, every match Sri Lanka played was accompanied by questions about their ability to be a top Test nation in the absence of the game's greatest wicket-taker. Those questions will be less frequent after Sri Lanka completed their third Test victory in five matches, and their largest win over Pakistan on the fourth day in Galle. The result also snapped Pakistan's winning streak, which included a 3-0 blanking of world No. 1 England, at five Tests.
It wasn't one-way traffic on Monday, as it had been on the three previous days as Asad Shafiq and Younis Khan defied Sri Lanka for nearly two sessions. Younis gave another demonstration of his fourth-innings mastery, while Shafiq once again showed his appetite for a scrap, as he had in his two previous Tests, against England. Their resistance stretched the game to the final minutes of the fourth day, but Sri Lanka were never in any serious danger, remaining firmly in control all through.
Pakistan's only casualty in the morning was the nightwatchman Saeed Ajmal, run-out in the second over of the day after a direct hit by Suraj Randiv from cover. An early finish to the game looked on the cards when Younis started to walk off after seemingly holing out to mid-off, but there was some doubt over whether Tillakaratne Dilshan had got his fingers under the ball as he took a low catch. It was hard to tell from the replays, and Younis was given the benefit of the doubt.
The only other clear-cut chance in the session for Pakistan was when Kumar Sangakkara put down a tough catch at midwicket off Shafiq ten minutes before lunch. There were a few mild lbw appeals, and Shafiq's french-cut for four early in his innings, but for the most part, Younis and Shafiq were more comfortable than any other Pakistan pair has been this match.
They didn't go into a defensive shell, looking to score even though the target was well out of sight. Younis used the sweep, mostly the conventional version but on one occasion the reverse as well. Shafiq capitalised on the deliveries bowled on his pads, and also pulled out some hard-hit lofted shots as Sri Lanka's bowlers were made to wait for a breakthrough longer than they have had all match.
The pattern continued after lunch as well, as the pair negated the generally slow spin easily. Both batsmen confidently used their feet against spin, and were quick to put away the loose deliveries. Sri Lanka's fast bowlers weren't at their best, not testing the batsmen enough and being inconsistent with their lines, while the spinners patiently plugged away. The slow bowlers managed to find a few edges which didn't carry to slip on several occasions.
As the session progressed, it seemed Sri Lanka's best hope of a wicket would be once the new ball was taken, but Herath got one to spin off the pitch with pace, and Shafiq nicked it through to slip, via the wicketkeeper's gloves, to fall for 80.
Younis went on to become the first Pakistan batsman to complete 1000 runs in the fourth innings, but he couldn't become the first man to score five centuries in the fourth innings of a Test. Sri Lanka hadn't needed to wait for the second new ball to break the Younis-Shafiq stand but when they did take it, they got the big wicket of Younis in the very first over. Nuwan Kulasekara, who has been a huge threat with the new ball, got one delivery to hold its line, and not dip in as his deliveries usually do, causing a faint Younis nick to the keeper.
With those two strikes, Sri Lanka were in sniffing distance of a win. Debutant Mohammad Ayub, the last of the specialist batsmen, hung around for an hour and a half before becoming fast bowler's Nuwan Pradeep first Test victim.
In a disappointing match for Pakistan, one of the bright spots for them was the wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal. Not only was he competent behind the stumps, he showed promise with the bat as well, besides conveying a sense of enjoying the game. He battled for an unbeaten 40, shielding the tail from the strike as much as he could, but couldn't take the game into a fifth day as Sri Lanka's spinners completed the job a few minutes before stumps.

Bob Woolmer was Reading Quran to Revert to Islam before his Death

Bob Woolmer was Reading Quran to Revert to Islam before his Death

Reverting to Islam is something that has always been part of cultural exchange that takes place between Muslims and non-Muslims. Bob Woolmer was no stranger to Pakistan. Being the coach of Pakistan’s cricket team at the time of his death, he was very familiar with the religion of Islam and Muslims. He had seen cricketers pray, some of them five times a day. It was a disciplinary act, which was ritualistically done, that he must have been touched by besides other things about Islam and Muslims.
In a recent interview, Shahid Khan Afridi revealed for the first time that Bob Woolmer wanted to revert to Islam. Reversion means going back to the former way or the former correct path. Since in Islam, it is believed that every soul that has been born on this earth is pure and hence a Muslim – a believer in one true God – it is the environment and parental heritage that makes a child naturally adopt a religion of his or her parents in most obvious cases. It is later that the Light of Truth is seen by them that they revert back to their original Path, known as the Straight Path to God.
Bob Woolmer suddenly died of a heart attack while on a Cricket World Cup tour in Jamaica in 2007 at the age of 58. His sudden death raised suspicion amongst the law-enforcement agencies and the Pakistani cricketers had to go under a test to get their names cleared of any mischievous involvement in what at the point in time seemed a possible murder.
His death however was ruled out to be completely natural and due to heart conditions he was facing. He was an atheist, but before passing from this world, Bob started reading Quran with an understanding toward it. After all, finally he realized the Way to the Lord, and his realization would be accepted if God be-Willing.

Bangladesh court stops cricket team's tour of Pakistan

Bangladesh court stops cricket team's tour of Pakistan

DHAKA: The Bangladesh high court on Thursday ordered the national team's upcoming tour of Pakistan to be postponed for at least four weeks due to security fears.
Bangladesh were set to play a 50-over game and a Twenty20 international on April 29 and 30 in Lahore, the first international cricket matches in the troubled country for three years.
But Additional Attorney General M.K. Rahman told AFP that the high court in Dhaka had ordered Bangladesh's cricket authorities to explain why the tour was scheduled to go ahead despite concerns over the team's safety.
"It asked the cricket board to explain in the next four weeks. During the four weeks, the court imposed an injunction on the cricket team's tour to Pakistan," he said.
Bangladesh would be the first team to visit Pakistan since a militant attack on the Sri Lankan team bus during the Lahore Test in 2009, when eight people died and seven visiting players and an assistant coach were injured.
The high court gave the order following a petition by a lawyer and a university teacher.
Pakistani political leaders, players and fans had welcomed the planned tour, but in Bangladesh concern over the visit has grown since it was announced on Sunday.
"We told the court that the Pakistan tour would risk the lives of our cricketers," Hassan Azim, lawyer for the two petitioners, told AFP.
"Pakistan is not a safe place for an international sports event. No other international teams are travelling to Pakistan. Why should Bangladesh go? The decision was imposed on the cricketers."
Anti-Pakistan feelings still run strong in Bangladesh, which was part of Pakistan until 1971 when it won independence in a bloody nine-month war in which Dhaka says an estimated three million people lost their lives.
Bangladesh's coach Stuart Law, from Australia, this week expressed fears about the team's schedule.
"It's got to be made sure by the two associating boards that everyone is 100 percent safe to go," he said. "I have spent time with the players and everyone is a bit concerned."
Law declined to confirm if he would go on the tour, while Bangladesh's cricket authorities said they were seeking clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Bangladesh to tour Pakistan in April

KARACHI: Bangladesh Sunday agreed to tour Pakistan for a short one 50-over match and one Twenty20 international later this month, reviving international cricket suspended in the country three years ago.

"I am pleased to confirm the tour in which Bangladesh will play a one-day match on April 29 and a Twenty20 game the next day, both in Lahore," Bangladesh Cricket Board president Mustafa Kamal said in a press release.
International cricket has been suspended in Pakistan since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009.
The attack left eight people dead and seven visiting players and their assistant coach wounded.
Pakistan's government had promised fool-proof security for the Bangladesh team after their security delegation assessed the situation here last month.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf said the confirmation is a good sign.
"I am extremely pleased that Bangladesh has confirmed the tour. Obviously this is very important for us and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that this tour takes place in a befitting manner," said Ashraf.
Pakistan had been a 'no go' zone for international team as they fear security of the players in a country where the national army is fighting militanc

Pakistan ready to host international cricket matches

Pakistan ready to host international cricket matches

International cricket has been suspended in Pakistan since gunmen opened fire on the Lankan team.

Pakistan is ready to host international cricket matches once again after a three-year break, authorities said Monday after the successful staging of a domestic Twenty20 event.

International cricket has been suspended in Pakistan since gunmen opened fire on the Sri Lanka team bus on its way to the Lahore Test in March 2009, leaving eight people dead and several players and officials injured.

Tens of thousands of cricket-starved fans thronged the Rawalpindi Stadium during the week-long Super Eight Twenty20 tournament, which ended on Sunday and was marked by tight security.

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said fans were desperate to see foreign teams come and play -- and the country was ready for it.

"The discipline shown by the fans prove that we deserve international cricket and the successful event with immaculate security proves that we can host international cricket," said Malik, whose Sialkot team won the final on Sunday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has invited Bangladesh for a limited-overs series later this month, but is still waiting for an answer.

Javed Miandad, Pakistan s all-time leading Test run-scorer and a PCB board member, said the success of the Super Eight showed the appetite for international cricket was enormous.

"This event sends a big message to the world," he said. "We don t have to say anything, 22,000 people on Sunday night demanded the return of international cricket in Pakistan and we can host that in near future."

Since the Lahore attack Pakistan have had to play all their "home" matches on foreign soil, mostly in the United Arab Emirates, and their share of 2011 World Cup games was moved out of the country for security reasons.

Pakistan also played "home" matches in New Zealand and England in 2009 and 2010. The PCB and police put stringent security arrangements in place for last week s Twenty20 tournament, hoping they would serve as a model for matches against visiting foreign teams.

"We deployed 1,300 policemen and each and every fan entering the stadium was thoroughly body-searched, and the successful event proves that we can also stage international cricket," senior police officer Malik Matloob said.

Shoaib Malik said that Pakistan badly needed international cricket. "We have been playing on foreign venues, which not only deprives the fans but also young players who want to improve their skills in the game, they can t do that when they don t see their stars play before them," he said.

The PCB said it was also looking at the option of staging a Pakistan Premier League (PPL) along the lines of the lucrative Indian Twenty20 league, with foreign players involved.

"We are doing our best to bring international cricket back to Pakistan," said PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf. "We are quite positive about that and are also planning to host the PPL so that we can take the first step."

Sania Mirza comes to Shoaib's support

KARACHI: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and wife of Pakistan former skipper cricket team Shoaib Malik has slammed the cricket gurus who have been criticising her husband for last few months for his performance.
Just after Sialkot Stallion crushed Karachi Dolphins in the Super eight T20 tournament on Sunday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Shoaib was declared player of the match, Sania on her twitter wall wrote: "The only captain who's gonna lift the trophy 7 times..HATERS not sure if one should feel sorry for u or laugh at u..keep the whining goin"
Just a few minutes later her another tweet appeared on the wall saying, "I stand corrected..Shoaib LIFTS trophy 6th time but its 7 for Stallions Happy everyone??"
