Samsung Becomes the World’s Best Handset Maker for the First Time

In the technology world, gadget makers like to claim their dominance over certain products they manufacture. It not only helps to market them well, but also provides for a sense of security over their accomplishment in actually manufacturing a genius idea on mass-production. When it comes to mobiles, Nokia declared itself to be the king and its competitors had reluctance in accepting the order of their ranks in the market. But for the past 14 years, the reports indicated Nokia to have held the first position.
Recently, Samsung won the race to the top and managed to achieve the title of the world’s numero uno handset maker. Strategy Analytics based its estimates on the shipment records of Samsung and declared its new status in the world of mobile manufacturing. According to it, Samsung shipped 93.5 million handsets in the first quarter which left Nokia with 82.7 million shipments behind it. Samsung’s shipment also helped it achieve market’s 25% share as opposed to Nokia’s 23%.
For many of the Samsung fans out there, it would be news of reassurance and satisfaction that finally their favourite handset maker got the recognition it deserved. Motorola was the first title holder, but Nokia beat it in 1998. The latter had a great track record of sales and customer satisfaction and still enjoys a good reputation. But Samsung achieved in mobile-making the status that it was looking for in other electronics departments. Now the thing to watch out for from Samsung would be, how long will it maintain the new title?
